Is a Luminess Tan More Trouble Than It’s Worth?

They tell you in the Luminess Tan commercials that you’ll get a flawless, golden tan with no streaking or spotting. But they tend to gloss over just how that airbrush works and how much mess it can make. Is a Luminess Tan worth all that effort, or can you get the same results with a lotion or cream?

The unique formula in Luminess Tan contains special pigments that allow you to see the product as you’re applying it, so you can see what your tan will look like after the product has been on your skin for a while. These pigments also make it easier for you to use their airbrush system because you can see exactly where you’re spraying the solution. Unlike those creams and lotions that you buy in the store, with which you have no idea if you’ve missed a spot or not and you just keep overlapping the product, which is what causes all that streaking.

According to the commercial the airbrush is supposed to help you get a flawless tan because you can control the spray, and the pigments in the product let you watch to see that you’re evenly applying it. Unfortunately, if you’ve never used an airbrush before, you could be watching that solution spray all over the floor, all over the wall, or everywhere but on your body where it’s supposed to be going.

One thing they don’t tell you in the commercials is that there’s a learning curve involved with the Luminess Tan airbrush. So if you’ve never used an airbrush before, don’t be disappointed if your first few tries are less than makeup-artist quality. Practice with colored water in your airbrush until you get the hang of it. Use circular motions, alter the air flow speed, and move closer or farther away. Work with the colored water in your airbrush until you can easily apply your tanner.

Practice makes perfect and once you get the hang of it, you will see those results they promise in the commercial. You’ll have a perfect, flawless tan every time.
