The Luminess ads say you can use their airbrush to get seamless tanning and makeup results – just like professional makeup artists do when they airbrush the supermodels. But if you have to use a piece of equipment that’s normally used by an artist, shouldn’t you be an artist yourself? Read this Luminess Tan review to find out just how artistic you need to be to get the results you’re looking for.
Even with all the sunless self-tanning products that are already on the market, there’s still much room for improvement. So anyone who offers an alternative to the messy creams and smelly lotions that leave you orange and streaked is going to make quite a splash on the tanning scene. And if they tell you that product is also used by makeup artists to turn plain Janes into supermodels, then of course everyone is going to want to try it.
But an airbrush?! As an experienced cake decorator I’ve been working with airbrushes for the past 20 years, and I can tell you for a fact that they’re very difficult creatures. They spit, they sputter, they clog. And unless you’re much practiced you’ll have overlapping and streaks in your spray. It’s difficult enough to make an air-brushed cake look nice; I can’t imagine using it to apply a tanning product – and worse yet, my makeup! So I had to give it a shot. And I’m presenting my results for you here in my Luminess Tan review.
- The Self Tanner – I’ve used those other self-tanners and I was really looking forward to trying the air-brush for this. As I said, I know how to use it so I thought I’d probably get really good results the first time. And I did get good results – on those parts of my body that I could reach. You’ll have to have someone else do your back, which means they’re going to have to know how to use the airbrush, too.
- The Makeup – I was really more interested in the makeup results because I love that flawless look that the cover girls always have on the magazines. The foundation seemed a little watery until I saw where it said you were supposed to shake it well before each use. And that did the trick. Of course it’s going to be a little thinner than normal foundation because you’re using the airbrush to apply it. Plus, you don’t want heavy coverage; smooth and flawless is what we’re going for.
I really liked the way this makeup went on and my complexion was smooth and flawless just like they said. One suggestion, though. I found it looked better if I applied the blush first and then put the foundation over top.
Do you have to be an artist to use the airbrush? Not exactly. However, it does take some practice. If you’ve never used one and you think you’re going to be able to open up the package and get a perfect tan the first time out, you’re going to be disappointed. My advice is to put a few drops of regular food coloring in some water and practice on a piece of paper until you get the hang of it. But once you learn to use the airbrush, you’ll be able to get that beautiful, flawless finish, too.
